Rick’s work has won accolades at the Super Bowl, been nominated for an Academy award and has won several Clios, Tellys and AICP awards. He has directed over a hundred award winning broadcast commercials for ILM, the Orphanage and others including a Super Bowl spot for Budweiser that was rated one of the top three commercials shown during that Super Bowl.
His work combines live action with computer generated animation or visual effects. Much of his work is photoreal, incorporating a rich design sense and his ability to weave good story with incredible visuals has proven to be a winning combination.
Before I began directing commercials, I spent several years working as a Visual Effects Supervisor on both commercials and on several blockbuster features at ILM, ESC and the Orphanage (Lost World, Matrix Revolutions). “I still act as a VFX Supervisor on my own work and I always approach the creative with an eye to how the effects will look and how I’ll create them”. As a VFX Supervisor I was fortunate to have worked with some of the movie industries best directors including Stephen Spielberg, the Wachowski brothers, Henry Selick, Barry Sonnenfeld, Joe Johnston, Mathew Robbins, Tim Story and Steve Beck. “This was my graduate school training”.
Rick has directed commercials for a broad range of corporate heavy weights including Budweiser, Abbott, Wrigleys, Energizer, Snapple, Intel, Nintendo and over thirty other major brands.
